Debtor Statement vs Matter Debtor Statement

Modified on Tue, 13 Feb at 9:50 PM

  • What is the difference between a Debtor Statement and a Matter Debtor Statement?
  • Why can't I get the Debtor Statement Form to automatically save to a matter?

There are two statements that relate to debtor transactions that may be relevant when looking at your matter:

(1) Statement of Debtor [CS Form]

This is a statement of outstanding amounts for a Debtor. It is generated for all of the matters for which the selected entity is a debtor.

This is generated from:

  • Matter Workbench > Matter Menu (tree view) > Debtors > Print Statement for Debtor
  • Debtor Workbench > Select relevant Debtor(s) > Right Click > Generate Statement (s). Statement Type: Debtor

If selected to save, this form will save to the debtor Entity (not to the matter). The logic is: A debtor statement relates to the debtor (the entity) so logically the form should save to the entity - this is especially important if the debtor has multiple matters which are listed on the statement - in that case which matter would you put the statement on?

(2) Matter Debtor Statements [MS form]

This is a statement of the transactions on a particular matter. It is only generated for the matter that is selected.

This is generated from any of the three locations below:

  • Main Menu > Accounting >Debtors > Overdue Notices & Statements> Print Matter Debtor Statements
  • Matter Workbench >Matter Menu (tree view) > Debtors > Print Transaction Statement
  • Matter Workbench > Matter Menu (tree view) > Debtors > Unpaid Items > Context Menu >Statement for Matter

If selected to save, this form will save to the matter. The logic is: A matter debtor statement relates to the matter (the specific one selected) so logically the form should save to the matter.
