How to use the User Defined Fields in System Forms

In the Forms Workbench (Main Menu > System Maintenance > Forms > Forms Workbench), some forms will have a set of user defined fields. The example below is from the BB - Matter Bill (and Billing Guide) > Static Fields set.

These fields can be used to import data from the related matter attributes or matter related system variables so they it can be inserted directly into bill forms.

Step-by-step guide

Matter attributes and matter related system variables can be linked to specific user defined fields as follows:

1. Open the relevant form record for editing via Forms Enquiry (Main Menu > System Maintenance > Forms > Forms Enquiry). 
2. In the Description of Form field, append the user defined field number in square brackets (including the spaces either side of the number), followed immediately by the matter attribute name.
   
   In the example below it is the text [ 91 ]BillAttn which would cause the user defined field 91 to be given the value of the BillAttn matter attribute for the matter related to the bill as at the time the bill is produced.
   
   
   
3. You can link additional user defined field values by separating them with a semi-colon.
4. Once you have added the additional text to the description, click OK to save the changes. 
5. You may now edit the relevant form and add the user defined fields in the same way as you would add any other system form variable and when the form is merged, the linked matter attributes will be inserted into the document.
