How to enable 'Create User Matters'

A 'user matter' is a matter for staff members that allows them to record non-legal work. For example, a user matter could be used to record CPD activities. 


There is a pre-requisite to enable user matters to be created when adding a new User in Security > Maintain User Security. To do this you need to create a default matter for Staff Matters and update the ZZZZ work type parameter. Follow the steps below to create the default matter, and then assign this default matter number to the work type parameter. ZZZZ work type is a system work type reserved in LawMaster for this, and other purposes. 



Step-by-step guide


  1. Go to Main Menu > Client & Matter > Enquiry > Matter Search 
  2. Right Click > Add 
  3. Add Matter Details: 
    1. Client ID: (Client) 
    2. Work Type: ZZZZ 
    3. Description: Default User Matter Template 
    4. Work Unit: M Main Office 
    5. Lawyer: PROADM 
    6. Bill Format: N No print 
    7. Scale: 1 Default Charge Rates 
    8. Charge Type: Non-productive and not chargeable 
  4. Click OK 
  5. Additional Data Items > Click OK 
  6. Record the Matter Number 
  7. Menu Bar > Parameters > Set Parameters > Matter and Client > Work Types 
  8. Double Click Par_Type: WT Par_Code: ZZZZ 
  9. Update Default Matter No. with the Matter Number created above > Click OK 
  10. Menu Bar > File > Reset Login Settings
