Problem

When merging or registering a template the following error occurs:

Solution

This error is being returned by Word and is usually being caused by MS Word's "Read Mode".

If Word is operating in "Read Mode" when it attempts to perform a merge or register a template, the merge/register will fail with the "ConfirmConversions" error. The "Read Mode" needs to be disabled. There are three main ways that "Read Mode" may become enabled:

  1. The template in Word is protected and set as Read Only
  2. Word is configured to "Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" (File > Options > General, near the bottom), and the file being opened is an email attachment, read-only, or otherwise uneditable. We recommend disabling the "Open e-mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" option.
  3. The user has previously viewed a document in "Read Mode". When the document is closed, the next document opened (possibly a document template being opened via LawMaster merge) will also be opened in "Read Mode".
