These document properties can be added to documents so that selected details about the document, such as the LawMaster folio or version number will remain correct, even if theses details are changed by creating new versions or saving as a new folio.
To use these document properties, LawMaster's Custom Document Properties parameter must be set. This is a system wide change which can be updated via Set Parameters > WP, Mail, Help & Printing > Custom Document Properties.
Step-by-step guide
To add custom document properties to a document template:
- Open the document for editing in Word via Workflow Development > Document Templates.
- Using the Document Variable Insertion Tool, choose the Placeholders Data Group, and insert the placeholder text in the same way as you would a merge field.
NOTE: The placeholders are inserted as plain text, not as fields. Also note that the placeholder text replacement does not occur when using the “Test Merge” function in Workflow Development > Document Templates.
If you need more information about editing document templates or adding fields, see: Add a new document template or Adding a Merge Field to an Existing Template in LawMaster.
To add custom properties to an existing folio:
- Open the folio attachment for editing.
- Place your cursor in the document where you wish to place the document property field.
- In the Word Ribbon, click on Insert > Quick Parts > Field > DocProperty > Select the LM field you wish and click OK. The field will then be inserted into the document.
- If you create new versions of the folio, the folio number and version details of the document property field will auto update - Refer to the matrix below for details.
