How to change a LawMaster client installation to work outside your office

These instructions govern how to alter an L: drive configuration of LawMaster to use the c: drive. 


NOTE: These instructions assume all the necessary changes have been made to your LawMaster server (SQL and DMS) to allow https connections from outside your network/office 


Step-by-step guide 

  1. Go to the user’s PC you want to give remote access to LawMaster to 
  2. Make sure LawMaster is closed 
  3. Replace the default L drive mapping to C drive inside the files under the <ConfigFileLocation> tag 
    1. LawMaster.Location 
    2. LawMaster.Location.Orig 
    3. To do step 3: 
      1. Click on the Windows Start Key 
      2. Type Notepad 
      3. Right click on the returned Notepad App and select "Run as administrator" 
      4. With Notepad open, select File > Open 
      5. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\LawMaster\Client 
      6. and select All Files (.)
      7. Select the LawMaster.Location.config file
        NOTE: the file may appear as just LawMaster.Location 
      8. Click Open 
      9. Replace the L at the arrow with a C 
      10. Click File > Save and save as normal 
      11. Click File > Open 
      12. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\LawMaster\Client 
      13. and select All Files (.) 
      14. Select the LawMaster.Location.Orig.config file
        NOTE: the file may appear as just LawMaster.Location.Orig 
      15. Click Open 
      16. Replace the L at the arrow with a C 
      17. Close and save Notepad 
  4. Go to: C:\ 
  5. Create folder “C:\LawMasterV10Installs” 
  6. Copy the LawMaster.Location.config file from another PC that already is able to use LawMaster outside your office to “C: \LawMasterV10Installs” location on this PC
